To seek one’s goals and to drive toward it, steeling one’s heart, is most uplifting! Henrik Ibsen

Seek one's goals

Henrik had it right. He reminds me of something I learned from business leaders. They said that success is the steady pursuit of a worthwhile goal. The interesting thing here is that neither Henrik nor the business leaders were saying that happiness or success were the achievement of the goals, they said the pursuit of the goal was the key.

The other think Henrik observed is that the pursuit would take effort. He called it “steeling one’s heart”! The business leaders talked about the steady pursuit. So, it’s not the achievement of the goal itself that uplifts us, it’s the work, the effort, the energy that we put into the pursuit.

So, if your life seems empty or listless maybe what you need is a goal to pursue, a “worthwhile” goal. What is a worthwhile goal? It’s one that is important to you. It’s consistent with your values and moves you closer to your dreams. A worthwhile goal will compel you to steel your heart in the drive to achieve it.

I’m sure that when you remember the happiest times of your life you will probably notice that you were in the process of pursuing a goal. That’s how we’re made, and that’s why Henrik Ibsen was right!

Note: I hope you’ve noticed that there is a “Goal Quotations” block on the left side of this site. Check it out each time you come here, there will be different quotations showing up regularly to help inspire you.
