I haven’t posted for a little while, my wife and I were out of town…and state and didn’t have a lot of time for the internet. We went to Minnesota for my high-school reunion and some time with my family. And, last Tuesday, we went to the Minnesota state fair with my brother and his wife. That’s probably the first time in 35 years, or more, that I’ve been at their state fair!

So, what does that have to do with Pride, Shame, and Goal Achievement? Here’s a bit of introduction to set the stage.
Do you like to “People Watch”? You know, you’re in the airport waiting for a flight and find yourself just watching the parade of humanity going by? I did some of that at the state fair. You really see a variety of humanity!
As I saw some of the folks walking by I think I discovered my first “Truism”! I saw someone who brought back the old adage “Some people have no pride.” Come on, you know what I mean!
But then the rest of the thought came through my mind…”They also have no shame!”
It’s interesting how those two things seem to fit together. But what does that have to do with achieving your goals? When you carry an appearance that says “I have no pride, and I have no shame,” you are telling your brain something powerful. The rest of the impact on your brain is, “So why should I expect to achieve something good?”
We’ve all heard about the book “Dress For Success.” But, don’t dress to impress someone else. Present yourself in such a way that you reinforce to your own brain “I’m proud of who I am; I would be ashamed to present myself in an unworthy manner. I’m working on my goals, and I’m going to achieve them. I’m a winner!”
Try it, do it for a month, watch the difference it makes!
