My wife and I were blessed last weekend in being able to attend Pat O’Bryan’s Unseminar 5! What was Unseminar 5? It was a three-day, high-energy, low-formality, information-packed seminar for people who market on the internet. It featured some of the biggest names in the industry including Craig Perrine, Donna Fox, Simon Leung, Ben Mack, Dr. Joe Vitale, as well as Pat himself! You may not recognize those names, but to people who market through web sites they are almost famous.

What a Goal-Enhancing Weekend!

My wife and I came home even more committed and confident of our goal, but with some new ideas about how we will reach it. For us, it was an exciting, goal-enhancing weekend.

So why should you care?

You should care because we were reminded of some truths about goal achievement…and I’m going to share some of them here.

First, as you work toward your goal, you should remain open to opportunities that might be helpful as you work your plan. We heard about this seminar a little more than a week before it occurred. We weren’t planning on going to San Antonio for a weekend seminar, but the opportunity presented itself and we could see that it would be helpful. We changed a few plans and went.

Second, you should always be ready to learn from people who have already succeeded at what you’re trying to do. We could see from the speaker list that experts would be there to teach us. We know that we have much to learn, and learning from experts is a good way to do it.

Third, you always benefit when you surround yourself with people who are excited and positive about life and the possibilities that it presents. We spent three days with people like that, not just the speakers, but two hundred and some others like us who were not experts. I cannot tell you how important it is to associate with people who are positive and going places. It really does help dilute the negative you may find yourself in on a daily basis.

Last, there is the importance of just finding a way to make it happen. I mentioned that we heard about the seminar about a week before it was scheduled. We were interested, but there was a challenge. (Isn’t there always a challenge?) I was scheduled to sing in church on Sunday morning at 8 a.m.! I don’t believe in breaking commitments when people are depending on you. I could go to the seminar, or I could sing as planned…or find a way to do both. Sometimes commitment to your goals and to other people will demand a little sacrifice. I got up at 4:30 a.m. in San Antonio, arrived at church in Austin at 7:30 for rehearsal, sang as scheduled, then drove back to San Antonio for the rest of the seminar.

Are you that committed to your goals? If you are, you will achieve them!
