Sometimes, even after we’ve carefully considered our goals and written them down and planned our actions, we just can’t seem to keep ourselves focused on following the plan. It seems that life just gets in the way!

This really isn’t unusual, but it can really stop our progress and cause doubts about our ability to actually complete the plan and reach our goal. I’m going to look at this a bit today and provide a suggestion or two in a post early next week.
Life really can get in the way. I’ve experienced it myself, many times, after I’ve set goals. This can happen because we’ve set too ambitious a work plan, or it can happen when something unexpected happens in our life. Often something happens that disrupts more than just our goal plan. There can be health issues that pop up and require our total attention. There also can be other emergencies that throw themselves into our lives at the most inopportune time.
My wife and I had one of those. We came home after being gone for a long weekend to find that a water pipe had broken and had run water into our home for three days! All of a sudden we were living in a hotel and dealing with the insurance company, contractors, and all sorts of problems we hadn’t planned on. Life really did get in the way!
When something like that happens, you probably need to carefully examine how your life’s priorities have temporarily changed and make some adjustments to your work plan.
But, you are not throwing your goal out! You are adjusting your plan to keep the goal in place, even if it is somewhat delayed.
Next week I’ll look at what we can do when life distracts us in the normal course. That’s another topic and can be attacked with different tactics!

So sorry to hear your weekend had such a soggy ending but thank you for the reminder that distractions shouldn’t knock us off the path to our goals. I get caught too easily in the “all or nothing” syndrome. Thanks for the reframe. It’s just an adjustment.
Warm regards,
Aprille
