There are people who want to be everywhere at once, and they get nowhere. Carl Sandburg

Achieving your goals requires focus. Sandburg was talking about people who have too many goals and they don’t get any of them. In fact, those people who want to be everywhere at once don’t accomplish any more than the people who don’t want anything!
Think about your “ultimate goal.” It’s interesting that you don’t see the idea of an ultimate goal discussed in term of plurals. If the goal is the ultimate one, how could there be two? Ultimate is a singular thing.
We all have multiple goals, but it is important the the small goals contribute to our achievement of the big goals. And, if you have identified an ultimate goal, your big goals must lead toward that one.
I wrote a couple days ago about ready, aim, fire. If you’re firing a gun there will be only one target. If you’re aiming at the ultimate goal, there can only be one. Otherwise, as Sandburg said, you won’t get anywhere!
Note: I hope you’ve noticed that there is a “Goal Quotations” block on the left side of this site. Check it out each time you come here, there will be different quotations showing up regularly to help inspire you.
