A good friend and business mentor of mine used to teach his associates to remember to FIRE! He would remind us that the phrase is “Ready, aim, FIRE!” not just “Ready, aim…”

Goals are wonderful things. Good goals help direct our efforts so that we reach whatever dream we might want to reach. Good goals are essential to achieving success in almost any endeavor. But just creating the goal is just the start.

John used to tell us that yes, we needed to ready ourselves. Part of this might be education, specialized training, proper business attire, or any number of things that good business people do to be ready to go forth and accomplish.

Next, we need to take aim. That’s where our goals come into the picture! Our goals are the targets we set and then aim at. They tell us what direction to go, they establish markers along the way to keep us on course.

But, nothing happens until we fire! All the goals in the world will not make us successful unless we take action. The bullet won’t hit the target if you don’t squeeze the trigger. Goals set our actions on course, but the actions are required to achieve success.

So, get ready, take aim, and FIRE!
