I read an interesting quotation and it turns out it was from one of the most-often quoted sources. You’ll remember him, his name is Anonymous!

“Set short term goals and you’ll win games. Set long term goals and you’ll win championships!”
So, all we need to do is set long-term goals and we’ll win our “championship”, right? Well, probably not. What do sports teams do to win championships? They win games. If they win enough games and the right games they win the championship.
To win whatever championship you are going after you’ll have to win the games that take you there. We really need both short-term goals and long-term goals. The key is to make sure the short-term goals are designed to take us toward the long-term goal.
Think about this a little, think about whatever sports team you like. If they have a goal to be the champion, they set that goal at the beginning of the season. But they also have goals for each week of the season and for each game. In fact, they’ll have different goals for each opponent based on what challenges they expect from that opponent. They still have the goal to win the game, but to win they’ll have to accomplish the smaller goals during the game.
So, we need them all! But, the long-term goal should be set first so all the shorter-term goals lead us to that goal.
Note: I hope you’ve noticed that there is a “Goal Quotations” block on the left side of this site. Check it out each time you come here, there will be different quotations showing up regularly to help inspire you.
